of Mumbai
The
University of Mumbai (known earlier as University of Bombay) is one of the
oldest and premier Universities in India. It was established in 1857
consequent upon "Wood's Education Dispatch", and it is one amongst
the first three Universities in India.
As a sequel to the change in the name of
the city from Bombay to Mumbai, the name of the University has been changed
from "University of Bombay" to "University of Mumbai",
vide notification issued by the Government of Maharashtra and published in
the Government Gazette dated 4th September, 1996.

IIT Bombay
Since the Academic year 2004-2005, IIT Bombay has been conducting the Basic French Communication Course for the benefit of the students and staff of IIT Bombay. The Japanese language course began from the Spring semester of the Academic year 2009-10. The German language course started from the Academic year 2010-11. The Chinese language course was started from the Academic year 2011-12.
We are grateful to
the Embassy of France in New Delhi, Consulate of France in Mumbai, Koo
International Co. Ltd., Japan, DAAD office and Beijing Jiaotong University,
China, who have been extending their support in identifying and sending a
teacher from France, Japan, Germany and China respectively to IITB to teach
these classes.
